shareI became very excited by thia post but I checked out Amazon.com and they're saying it's the British series from the 1970s -- not the Karloff 1960s "Thriller". DARN!

TVDVDPLANET - yes, I just bought this Thriller set. I have mixed feelings: on the one hand, since it is all there is right now, I have been enjoying it. There are 4 shows on each disk, but my dvd player refused to recognise the fifth disk, and I haven't even opened the 2nd and 3rd box in the set. So, I am going to have to contact the seller for satisfaction about that one unplayable disk (so far). They are copied off the air and there is a screen brand for SCREAM network in the lower right-hand corner (all the time). All commercials are edited out, but the characteristic spiderweb pattern scene-closer remains (as it should). It's supposed to be the whole series of episodes and runs about a hundred dollars US, including postage. Would it be better if it were a legit copy direct from film? Yes. In the absence of that, is this acceptable? Yes, with reservations, as you may have to wrangle for satisfaction regarding errors in duplication/packaging. I am really enjoying having the shows, though.

Not to be confused with the 1960s American anthology series with Boris Karloff, this Thriller is a British anthology program that ran from 1973 to 1976 and the brainchild of writer-producer-director Brian Clemens, best known for The Avengers. A cult favorite in its native country (though frustratingly difficult to see for the last two decades), the show aired briefly in United States through the ABC Mystery Movie, which repackaged the episodes with new introductions and titles.
Though A&E's boxed set packaging presents Thriller as a horror classic, the ten stories (each running 65 minutes) presented in the Season One set lean more heavily towards suspense in the Alfred Hitchcock Presents vein, though some stories feature distinct supernatural elements: "Spell of Evil" has Diane Cilento as a witch preying on widowed businessman Edward De Souza, while "Someone at the Top of the Stairs" stars Donna Mills (Knots Landing) and Judy Carne as tourists in a boarding house with a terrible secret, and "A Place to Die" addresses pagan rituals. The rest of the episodes generate their chills from distinctly human subjects: "Lady Killer" pits cold-blooded con men Robert Powell and The Avengers' Linda Thorson against naive Barbara Feldon (Get Smart), while "The Colour of Blood" has an attorney's secretary mistake an escaped serial killer for a client. Uniformly well-acted by a solid cast of British and American talent, Thriller: Season One is a taut ten-pack of television frights, delivered with class and skill by Clemens and a talented group of directors. The four-disc set features interviews with Clemens and directors Shaun O'Riordan and John Cooper; Clemens also provides amusingly morbid introductions to each episode à la Hitchcock. --Paul Gaita
Product Description
An international cult phenomenon from television genius Brian Clemens (The Avengers, Danger Man), now on DVD for the first time, all ten spine-tingling movies from the first season of THRILLER available for your viewing terror.
Positively Hitchcockian, with a liberal dose of the supernatural, nothing is what it seems in each feature length episode of THRILLER. Witches, serial killers, ghosts, con-artists, Satanists and terrorists are just some of the villains involved in the outlandish plots, the unexpected twists and the even more surprising endings. But it's what you can't see--the sinister atmosphere, the almost unbearable tension--that makes this one of television's most terrifyingly enjoyable shows ever. Fear has never been better.
Innovative and boundlessly inventive, THRILLER boasts a galaxy of American and British stars like Donna Mills, Bob Hoskins, Patrick Magee, Helen Mirren, Hayley Mills and Stephen Rea.

Anyone have any idea if and when Boris Karloff's Thriller will be released onto DVD!? I have the Brian Clemens Thriller, it's OK but doesn't compare to Boris Karloff's Thriller. It may only be 2 seasons but "WOW"! It's the one show I've been searching for, for years. I have only 6 episodes on vhs but would love to have a proper release of Thriller. Anyone know why they're taking so long to release this show to DVD? Lilly
shareIf everyone would just send Universal Home Video a letter, e-mail, fax or even phone them and politely beg them to please release Boris Karloff's Thriller on DVD. I'm starting to do it now. If enough people do this, there is a good chance it could happen. This happened with Warner Bros. Adventures of Superman (George Reeves), and every season is out on DVD now because fans kept asking for it.
Those people who are thinking of buying bootlegs of Thriller off eBay, skaryguyvideo.com and others et cetera, I would wait if I were you. Just like Thriller, skaryguyvideo has been selling a bootleg of The Untouchables (Robert Stack) for a while. I've been desperately wanting that old TV show on DVD for years. Guess what! Paramount is releasing Season 1 on DVD. Release Date: 4 April 2007. Sure pays to be patient.
Please, Please Universal, release the Thriller on DVD soon!
Anyone who wants the one and ONLY "Thriller" hosted (and starring in some episodes) Boris Karloff can purchase the entire set by going to ioffer.com; I just purchased a set.

Well..Well..Well...You'd think with the marriage of Universal and NBC, it would produce a slew of classic tv shows from the vaults of NBC and Thriller would be one of them. I don't get it..with all the classic tv shows on dvd, people need to rely on bootleg copies with poor quality. If you ask me..Someone at NBC/Universal's video department is not doing their job. I bet any money the head of the department is some 20 something year old kid who would think that Beverly Hills 90210 is a classic show. Come on Universal and get on the stick there have been many many people waiting for this series for years now. If you need someone to make some money for you in your video department I'd be more than happy to take the job. Just e-me and I'll take it...[email protected]
