Off Topic - The BBC

I can't get a TV signal in my flat due to aerial issues and to be honest it was a Godsend because when I moved in I was struggling financially for the first year and didn't need the additional strain of having to fork out for a TV licence.

I was not in the least bit surprised when the BBC (yes that paedo-infested institution), found a way to reap in more funds by insisting licences were required to watch iPlayer. Not just live streaming but even Catch-Up so I deleted their app from my iPad and never go to iPlayer on the PC either. My partner subscribes to a YouTube uploader for his Liverpool matches and I just watch Corrie and Emmerdale on the ITV Hub (as well as documentaries and such). I gave up Eastenders a decade ago because it was utterly and unnecessarily vioent and depressing.

For all those interested, it's worth checking out Amazon Prime. For around £70 a year you get free next day delivery on Prime items, plus Prime Video. They feature top movies and great series like The Walking Dead. That's less than half of the cost of a TV licence. However, I believe that if you are able to receive BBC transmissions then you have to pay even if you don't watch the cr@p they systematically spew out.

I find that with Prime, YouTube and the ITV Hub plus 5 on Demand et al, I am awash with good TV when I want to stick something on. The BBC need to curl up and die in my opinion. To think they have churned out some seriously sick individuals under a guise of respectability and they want us to line their pockets? Stuff that game. I have never taken such delight in declaring I neither have nor want their *beep* services via their website but oh hang on! They still might call by the flat unannounced to confirm. Tards!!

I've had Prime for years and couldn't manage without it. Actually Amazon aren't a great deal better, morally, than the BBC considering they evade tax and treat employees like **** (the documentary about that may have been on the BBC so you might have missed it!). You also missed a great Louis Theroux docu last night about Savile, which is a shame.

I feel ok saying I use Amazon, since I also watch the BBC and am therefore unselective in terms of which group of criminals I choose to support. Yay me. I only pay half the license fee due to the fact that I live with a blind person, so it's worth it.

'The Last Man On Earth' is on Prime and I highly recommend it, by the way.

I am ANYTHING but a pugnacious upstart

People need to know that the programmes on all the non BBC channels are not free, they are just not paid for by the tv licence.

I pay for content on ITV and Channel 4 with money I pay to companies who later advertise on these channels.
I pay for cable tv which partly funds SKY.I have to.
I don't want to give SKY money but if I want to watch football I have to.

What percentage of programmes on the cable/Sat channels originate with the BBC? a lot.

I don't see why people should watch stuff on the I player and not pay for it.

Everyone should remember that it's in most other media organisations interests to slate the BBC and turn public opinion against them. Whether that be crying about the license fee or accusing them of covering up crimes. It's very difficult to get perspective when the BBC are obviously biased in their own view of themselves, and other media resent them receiving licence fee and government funding.

correct authorised user, people don't know that Channel 4 is also supposed to be a public service broadcaster but little evidence of that nowadays.
