Why don't they just recast Sharif?

It has been done before, and it'd save the storyline. So many characters aren't the original, David, Sarah, Rosie...

Are you actually being serious using those three people as an example? They were kids.

As for recasting him, it's awful when that's done (unless the character has been out the show eg Tracey and Nick).

Brings back bad memories of Home and Away.

reply

Only characters who are children or recurring get recast.

Why bother anyway, I am sure he won't be much of a loss.

reply

Should recast him with an Indian actor, that would sure piss him off hahahha.

Wouldn't bother me if they recast him. It's not as though he's a longstanding or iconic character, and the actor isn't a stand-out talent whose shoes it would be difficult to fill.

reply

Home and Away and Neighbours were funny, they would have one actor and then the next episode the character would have a completely different face.

Not as bad as US soaps, though, where they actually have an announcement V/O that tells you who the new actor is playing the role.

I always think of Dallas where they had to recast Miss Ellie because Barbara Belle Geddes was ill. But then she got better so they sacked the new actress and brought the old one back. And no one in the family commented!

reply

The best recast and then return of original was in the comedy Rosanne. When Alicia Goranson left she was replaced with Sarah Chalke. But when Goranson returned after 3 years she just walked into the room and Rosanne greeted her with 'where the hell have you been'. And instead of getting rid of the replacement, they both took turns to play the character! OK, it's a sitcom but wouldn't it be great if soaps did something like that?

reply

When Nick came back in his current form he was an adult. And child or adult doesn't make a difference; different is different. After a few episodes, we'd soon get used to a different actor. As someone else said, its not as if he has been in it for 20 years.

reply

Then why bother recasting him? He is a trivial character.

reply

Did David get recast? I thought he was Original David.

I remember the day they recast Pippa from Home & Away clearly as if it was yesterday. It was the most shocking moment of my childhood. She was blonde and then she was brunette with a totally different face, and all those foster kids just carried on like she was still the same person!

I am ANYTHING but a pugnacious upstart

reply

Yes David was recast at the start of Sarah's pregnancy storyline.

I think Rosy was the original kid though?

reply

No Rosie was definitely recast. Flanagan got the role when she was 9. I can't picture the girl before her though.
Sophie was recast too, the girl before her had a bowl cut as I recall.
Jack P Shepherd used to knock about with my friend's kid when he was in Corrie but they were still young, which is why I thought he'd been in it from really young, but I don't disbelieve you.
