The Real Reason the Boards are Closing?

I don't know anything for a fact, but wondered what your opinions are?

I don't buy for one second the reason they have given us regarding trolls. I also can't see that they stand to make/save anymore money by closing it either.

My bet would be that it is down to the legal constraints of this world we now live in, whereby no one can say anything that offends anyone. IMDb are now legally and morally obliged to moderate the boards from hate, liable and all those things. Years ago it didn't matter but times have changed. Needless to say Amazon (owners of IMDb) are perhaps anticipating future negative PR if things continue without moderation, hence their decision?

The real reason is they couldn’t monetise the message boards. Staff at IMDb don’t care about movies, there job remits are driven by advertising and making money. This was revealed by a former employee on Reddit.

What is that thing you're using?.... It's technical.

I would have clicked onto the adverts a lot if that meant saving these boards. They have the best layout that we ever likely to find on the Internet and I think it's just a crying shame for the person who devised these boards as well as for us.
