Characters they're no longer writing for

I think they're having a hard time keeping some characters relevant.

Cathy and Alex seem to have been sidelined.

Mary is virtually absent. And Norris' screen time has been considerably reduced.

We hardly see Audrey or Gail anymore.

Erica and Dev-- where are they? Dev gets mentioned by Gemma but not shown. Dev's kids are also not shown. I guess they're with Mary somewhere.

Where's Maria? And Rita?

Phelan is in and out briefly, it's like they're not sure what to do next with him. Eileen is missing in action.

They're building up to this tedious Shona-David thing - although I hope I'm wrong and that Shona gets together with someone else. And dealing with Rosie's return, which has been underwhelming.

Yes, it's obvious that Shona is going to replace Kylie in David's life. He needs a story so I'm okay with that. I like how Shona and Gemma know each other.

Rosie is fun but they really are using her a lot and it's pushing some of the other ones off the screen.

I like Erica and Dev and kind of miss them. I also like Aidan and Eva, but I think the writers don't know what to do with them either.

Isn't Maria still in prison? And I think Alex may have been written out - he was living at Yasmeen's with Cathy but it was a bit crowded and I remember Cathy saying something about him having moved into a new flat and that he was happy there.

The rest I agree with you, although actors do get a rest every so often. I think it's odd that they had Mary change her mind about going to South Africa but then she hasn't been seen since. They might as well have had her go but then come back saying she was unable to settle there and missed her friends.

I'd add Beth to the list too. Kirk said last night that Beth would have known what to say to Sinead and Chesney, which implies that she's gone away somewhere. Was anything said about that in January? (I missed a few episodes as I was on holiday).

My impression is that Beth went away on some short trip. I don't know what to think about Mary. We haven't heard she's being cut from the cast. But they don't seem to be writing for her. So will they just ignore her then out of the blue write an exit for her?

I think the writers are spending too much time on this Sinead & Chesney break-up. They're cute and I like them in limited doses but let's be honest, they are not very skilled actors and giving them this much frontburner material is bringing the overall quality of the show down.

I love Tracy & Luke and want to see more of them. I also like Adam a lot-- that guy is really great. I'd almost like to see Todd throw himself at Adam. I think Todd and Adam are a lot alike, just one is straight and one is gay. It would be interesting if Todd grew bored with the the vicar and tried to make Adam go gay. In the meantime, I think Adam and Rosie could start getting it on.

I feel that Audrey should be incorporated into Ken's do-not-resuscitate story. I was hoping they'd have Ken marry Audrey and learn he still has a lot more life left to live.

I'm looking forward to Todd and Adam's business venture. Should be good material.

Not seen much of Craigy lately. Maybe the actor is busy with A levels?
