What did they think was gonna happen?

First saw this film as a kid, loved it ever since. But, as you get older you notice things you might not have before, although the last time I saw on TV, was only a couple years ago. Question: We know that Molly and Johnny fell in love the first night they met. We know they kissed in the garden (thanks to awful mother saying "she's let him kiss and paw her already." All 4 parents knew of their passion for each other. OK....when they visited the now-married Sylvia and Ken at the beach and they stayed at the beach for an hour or so, then went to movie and were gone for hours. Ken looked for then on the beach from the balcony and when kids talked about movie, the camera lingered on Ken's face as he was worried they'd make love. Why was he so upset because they did exactly that??!! He went into Molly's room to warn her (lovingly and gently to be sure). Every clue and look from Ken and Sylvia indicated exactly what was going to happen.

I loved the way he said "they made love passionately, the way we did" or something like that. Johnny and Molly were their parents kids. This movie was hot stuff back then! Thanks for replying.

I always thought how ironic that was - Molly's mother objects to Molly visiting a home where loose morals were acceptable for fear she would become sexually active, which is exactly what happens the very first night Johnny arrives!
