I feel bad for anyone who really believes that.

I feel beyond bad for anyone like you who doesn't know this and have lived it. You must be extremely lonely and miserable.

Of course the only reason to exist is to love and be loved. What else comes ahead of that!?? I'm not asking you, since you have proven yourself to be emotionally clueless by your response. Anyone else?

reply

I don't think it's the sole reason for existence, nor do I think it's sad for one to believe it is or isn't the sole reason. That seems to be a personal belief.

Kinda funny you mention God is love & created us to love, but you spew hate more than love. And you have fallen from what we intended to be. Quite ironic to hear that from you, Peter Tancordo.

Jesus is about love. God is Old Testament, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, jealousy and vengeance. Love is often unrequited, causing such suffering it almost qualifies as a level of Hell (which is also an Old Testament concept). This is a very nice sentiment but little more than that.

reply

But the quote is not about unreciprocated love. The quote is about loving and BEING loved. The point of life is obviously not about unrequited love, but about loving someone who loves you back.

I can't believe anyone quibbles with the quote or its veracity. If the point of life is not about loving and being loved, what IS the point of life?

It appears the point is loving and accepting love without conditions or expectations.

Venus - LOL! And OP: the word is "sole" (snigger).

That's for damn sure

Actually, my favorite line in the movie is the last one Egan has, about the weapons of the angels. Love that line and the way he delivers it.

reply

Yes, that is a powerful end for the film and I loved it. I especially love that the weapons of the angels included humor, or at least was an "add-on" to the weapons of the angels.

Sometimes I feel like the only thing that gets me through rough times is humor.

It was perfect.

I have to say, I was pretty moved by this line as well, mostly because it is a father delivering it to his daughter, upon whom he obviously wishes the greatest happiness, as well as fearing she would have a shred of that cold mom in her. This is a tricky spot for a dad: Do you want your little girls to be kissing passionatley, or to be ice queens? Tough thing to get right.

Movie girl: Favorite line for me too - To Love and be Loved is most important in life as Richard Egan said to his daughter Molly.

@OP mayanlongcount: your post is 8 years old, so you now should be 21 and well over your saccharine, pubescent notions about love.
