Sandre Dee's "morning-after" scene: good or awful?
can't decide on her acting:
"I haven't done anything wrong, I've been a good girl", No, No, I've been a good girl"!, "Please I want my fadda, please I want my fadda"

From everything I've seen her in (mostly melodramas) , Sandra Dee was not a good actress.
shareOh...I beg to differ. She was very good in "Imitation of Life" and in several of the "Night Gallery" episodes she appeared in.
shareI think she was a good actress, but this kind of fare from this era doesn't invite an ingenue to do anything more than what Dee does here.
I think she does far better elsewhere, and a little later.
This kind of sudser could find a teenaged Dee a bit shrill, but I thought overall she generally showed an intelligence and a certain clarity that prevents me from dismissing her as a bad actress.
Let's face it: the appeal of A SUMMER PLACE is that damned music, for those of us uncynical enough to appreciate such swoony cascading stringery from the cusp of the '50s and '60s.

Her overall performance seemed very natural and unforced to me. The particular scene you mention would be difficult for anyone to pull off. It had an over-the-top premise and that is what she turned in.
I know I would have been hysterical under those circumstances and screaming my head off for my dad to stop such a thing from happening.
