Peerles Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe was off the screen for nearly 2 years and returned to movies in Some Like It Hot. A great peformance by a great star, a peerless star! MM was robbed of an Oscar nomination if not the Oscar itself.
Marilyn Monroe was under contract to 20th Century Fox however due to her strike against the studio 20th amended the contract to allow for an outside film. One for 20th and then one for another studio. MM had a great hit in Bus Stop and then went to WB for The Prince And The Showgirl. In the interim MM was announced for the remake of The Blue Angel at 20th but smart lady had Director approval and 20th could not come up with an agreed Director from her short list of fabled directors such as Wyler, Huston, Cukor, Wilder, etc. The greatness of this movie is that those first considered Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis and the lovely Mitzi Gaynor never panned out and then Wilder went to Tony Curtis and to Jack Lemmmon who was loaned by Columbia and then the best of all Marilyn Monroe
for Sugar Kane from 20th.
In my book there never was and never will be a star like Marilyn Monroe. In her heyday MM was never given the acclaim she deserved via Bus Stop, Some Like It Hot and The Misfits.
