I agree, quite creepy. I believe the same/similar thing happened in the beginning of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and both princesses were caught off guard. I think there are a lot of "romantic" stories from the 80s and backwards where a man/boy would do something creepy to get the attention of the woman/girl he likes or flirt with her.
If this was to be animated now it would have been done differently, but the dance in the woods would still have occurred.
