Missing material?

Does anyone know why the colorized version is 10 minutes shorter than the B&W presentation of the film on the DVD? Also, the back of the box states this was Walt Disney's first live-action feature. Hardly. OLD YELLER and 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (an Academy Award-winner, no less) both came before SHAGGY DOG. In fact, there were a number of live-action features Disney produced prior to this. (Apparently no proof-reading of the package, perhaps?) I love this film, but it seems like yet another example of the studio being unfamiliar with its own product and history. A few years back, one studio executive was talking about how many decades it had been since a theatrical short with Mickey Mouse had been made, completely overlooking 1995's RUNAWAY BRAIN (or PRINCE AND THE PAUPER). The oversight was caught by fans, who quickly let the studio know about it, prompting one Disney employee to observe that Walt would be less than impressed with the current administration.

You're right. What they should have said is that it was their first live-action comedy.

The colorized version was prepared for television broadcast and was cut to fit in an alloted time. This is why it is 10 minutes shorter than the theatrical version.

What material did they take out from the original verison?
