I liked this film

A good film and I liked this film because it is about a murder of a young woman who is not white nor black, but a little of each. In other words she is a half-caste. The girl we don't get to see her alive because she is dead when we see her. She has a black male relative and the other white actress does not like him because she doesn't like black people. She gets really angry when the black guy picks up a toy and handles it, she just can't hold herself back any longer. It is about a murder and the film is about trying to find out who murdered the girl who is half-caste. A good film. The film is made in England and so there are no American actors or actresses in the film.

Is this the film were the bi-racial girl is killed by her Sister in law? A baby carrage also plays in to the plot somehow.

Almost 8 years later ... yes.

I thought Sapphire was great. An interesting murder mystery that also dealt with racial prejudice in 1950's England. What was appealing is that they used the racial angle as an effective plot point to address racism, but didn't get overly preachy. The great story and tight script made the 92 minute movie feel more like 30 minutes. A very well done movie that got 8 stars from me.

Regarding "The other white actress does not like him .... she just can't hold herself back any longer."

My brother and I saw this film on TV in the '60's and remember that scene clearly. We were affected by it. I say elsewhere that the black male relative is clearly hurt by her recoiling.

This was an excellent film. The social commentary still holds up and the mystery is still engaging.
