Watched tonight due to QT recommendation
The blu ray quality is incredible, they cleaned it up something amazing. Damn who would've thought a movie from over 50 years ago could look so good.
So I don't like westerns but... there's something particularly 'easy watching' about this movie. It makes for a great Sunday movie. You can just kind of sit back, relax and enjoy it. It's obviously from simpler times and it has some staple acting from the era (a little too hammy in sections) but it adds to the charm really.
I don't think I could give it the 8.2/10 IMDB has it currently pegged at but I certainly do think it is deserving of a decent rating. I can easily see why QT enjoys the film and to be honest I'll probably watch it again in 5 or 10 years, which for a western, surprises me very much.
As QT has said, it's a good buddy film. For the most part they are just kinda hanging around.
Also the girl was stunning, just stunning - she looks exactly like Dina Meyer. Overall I'm pleasantly surprised by the film. I'd be happy to give it a 6.5 to 7/10 (I'm a hard reviewer) and for a western, I think that's pretty damn great.
Finally, I didn't realise how cool Dean Martin was until I watched this. I guess everyone saying he is cool had a reason. Somehow he just kind of oozes it naturally, I don't know how but he's a smooth motherf........
Good times, thanks for the recommendation QT.
