Was Rock Hudson really that tall?

In the scene where Doris Day & RH's characters are getting into the Harvard boy's car, and RH can't fit, is it because he really was that tall, or the car was just small?

(I know this is such a stupid question, but I'm curious haha)

reply

Well, the car was small, but Hudson was HUGE! He was ahead of me once at the cashier's counter in the MGM Commissary, and it was like standing behind a billboard.

Wow, you saw him? Lucky! Did you get to talk to him?

"New York, this is your last chance."

'Fraid not; he was just paying his check after having lunch there, so I don't have an interesting story to tell you. I probably wouldn't even have noticed who he was, except you couldn't help wondering, "Who is this gigantic person in front of me?" Nine times out of ten when you see someone from the screen, they look smaller than you expect them to.

They actually say he's 6'6" in the movie, but I thought he was more like 6'4" (which is still obviously well above average height). His IMDb profile also lists him as being 6'4".
