Similarities to You've Got Mail

I like this movie, and I also like YGM. In some ways, it has a similar theme to YGM, woman falls in love with a man and hates another man, and they are the same person.

Yes, I thought that too. But similarities in romantic-comedys are pretty much inevitable.

I also really like both movies.
While I see the similarities between the two that you mention, it might interest you to know that YGM is actually a remake of "In the Good Old Summertime" (1949), with Judy Garland and Van Johnson, which was itself a remake of the 1940 James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan film, "The Shop Around the Corner".

If you really want to see similarities, check out either of those 2 films ;-)

"The Shop Around the Corner" is especially enjoyable.

No, "You've Got Mail" is similar to "Pillow Talk." "Pillow Talk" was first. And personally, I can't take and won't watch Meg Ryan, so I wouldn't waste my time on it.

Agreed. I did not like You've got mail which is supposed to be a remake of Shop Around the Corner. YGM does not hold a candle to shop around the corner. I don't watch any of Tom Hanks -Meg Ryan movies, they can't compare to the classics they try to imitate.

I've got a different take on it: I think, at least they're trying to be classy like those that we love from the Golden age. I'd rather watch Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan make a romantic comedy, than some kind of crude thing made in the modern style with crude humor. So, even if it may not measure up to the ones of the past, I think that any time current day stars try to pay homage to classic film in that way, it's a good thing. So I will always watch them when I can. We must support such types of movies – because it's the closest thing we can get to the Golden age, without watching stuff from the Golden age.

And isn't that what we hope for – that someday, such types of movies will really make a comeback? I think that the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie "You've Got Mail" does a classic movie buff proud!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

I love Pillow Talk but I fell asleep at the theatre watching You've Got Mail.

Agreed that YGM is a mediocre remake of Ernst Lubitsch's The Shop Around the Corner, a film which has long been a romcom favorite of mine - along with classics like Roman Holiday and Holiday Inn.

If you're watching 'Fullscreen' DVDs, you aren't getting the whole picture.
