'Roly Poly' song
Does anyone know who sings the song "Roly Poly" in the bar with Doris and Rock? I've wondered about this for years and have never been able to find out.

shareThe "Roly Poly" song and 2 other songs are performed by "Perry Blackwell". Perry even exchanges a few words with star Doris Day. You can see Perry performing in a night club scene in another film called "Dead Ringer" (1964) with Bette Davis.
sharethe film version was recorded by doris day.
shareI was going to comment on the band appearing in "Dead Ringer" as well but someone beat me to it...by a few years!
shareThat's actually what brought me to this thread as well. I watched Dead Ringer and recognized Perry (whom I still correlate with Pillow Talk and Roly Poly).

The CD soundtrack for "Pillow Talk" is available as a German import and has all the music and songs including Perry Blackwell's vocals on part of 'Roly Poly' and two other songs from the nightclub scene.
shareWho plays the piano in that song?
sharePerry Blackwell plays the piano AND sings the song. The song is considered one of the worst movie songs of all time... I just think it's strange.. but I love the movie anyway.

I love this movie and everything about it. I like the song Roly Poly. Doris and Rock look like they're having so much fun singing it. But I think the title song is one of the worst movie songs of all time. However Doris sings it as if it were wonderful!
sharePerry who sings the song in that sing along with Doris and Rock actually died recently. I was sad that is one of my favorite parts of the movie i like the song she sings at the end of the scene
sharePerry's reactions when she see's Rock acting the dog were very funny. And then when she launches into, "You lied! And you'll be sorry....", Rock does a double take and winks at her. Good stuff.

"I miss Dwight. Congratulations, Universe. You win."
Was fortunate enough to catch this movie on a real, big-screen recently.
And loved the subtlety - especially around the 'Roly-Poly' scene. Yeah - I love the bit where Rock exchanges a knowing wink with Perry Blackwell - totally makes the scene.
Surprisingly good movie - holds up pretty well.
Yes! Every scene is packed with fun moments. Such an enjoyable movie!
shareI could have done with some more of the 'You Lied' song as Rock Hudson departs from the club. I've never heard of Perry Blackwell before. I'd like to see more.
shareI love that scene, he had real "movie star charisma" as he winked at her.
sharedo you have any more information about perry? it doesnt appear she did any other films besides this and the one with bette davis

I love Roly Poly, the atmosphere, and you lied..
those three songs are in the same scene....love this movie...so great!
This is such a delightful movie!!! I saw it again tonight and the nightclub Roly Poly scene is one of my favorites. I LOVE when after Rock lies to Doris, the singer starts singing "You Lied and you'll be sorry" and Rock gives her that devastating wink. It's not only that we don't make movies like this any more....we don't even make PEOPLE like this any more. What a trio of charming, delightful sophisticates!
share_Love_ that little wink-- he knows she's on to him, and she's just shaking her head. Fun, fun movie! But did you all catch the rest of the patrons in the piano bar? What a scary looking bunch! They look like they have no rhythm and they're struggling to clap in time. Wonder if it's on purpose?
And the worst thing about this movie: watching it, then having "The Roly Poly Song" stuck in your head for days!
Not when you've got the even catchier "Come September" theme stuck in your head as well. xD
