I almost slapped my sister while watching this film...

It was her first time seeing a Rock Hudson film and she refered to his looks as "the ugly younger brother of Cary Grant." Now, I LOVE Cary Grant but what she said was downright sacrilege!! Haha It's all in good fun, but seriously- I have never heard "ugly" used in the same sentence as Rock Hudson!!

Love this movie- one of the best romantic comedies of all time :-D

I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.

Are you kidding, is your sister blind? lol

He was stunning! The epitome of tall, dark and handsome!

reply

Rock Hudson is my man :D

reply

I can see the resemblence between the two but I couldn't say one was uglier! Generally I probably prefer Cary because he has that sarcastic wit but in Pillow Talk, Rock Hudson is just sexy as hell. The phone calls where he is playing up to Jan are just delicious!

This is one of my fave DD movies (heck, it's one of my favourite ever movies) and they make a gorgeous couple.

I'd be interested to hear who your sister thinks is attractive. Ugly people fall in love and get married all the time. I guess there is someone out there for everyone.

BTW: I think Rock Hudson is one of the all-time best looking men ever!

reply

Oh Singjohn I can certainly agree! Wasn't he just devine? And an excellent underrated actor too.

He and Doris made a wonderful looking couple and it was lovely to learn that they were great friends in real life.

I love Cary Grant and think he was extremely good looking, stylish, charming, deft comedian (and whatever else you might like to add) but Rock Hudson looked like a Greek god.

Apropos of that, I remember being amused in the movie "Giant". Here was Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor, both of whom looked like they stepped down from Mt Olympus, and their son was played by Dennis Hopper. Those genes certainly skipped a generation.

reply

Your sister would have deserved that slap, LOL. Rock Hudson and the word "ugly" shouldn't even be in the same proximity!

I love Cary Grant too, but Rock had a look and presence that was uniquely his own, just as Grant did.

reply

I think Cary was absolutely gorgeous. But I think Rock was a perfect specimen of a man from head to toe and everything in between. If you asked a computer to produce a photo of the perfect man, it would produce a picture of Rock Hudson.

Rock Hudson - tall, dark, and handsome -- I agree!
Love this movie -- one of my favorites.

Obviously your sister is either blind or 9 years old. I am no fan of Rock, but no one would deny he was handsome.

I heard an apropo line spoken in the third of the Rock Hudson - Doris Day films today; Send Me No Flowers (1964). When the character played by Clint Walker runs into old flame Doris Day he makes a comment when introduced to her husband played by Rock Hudson that he Clint Walker always thought she would marry a Cary Grant type. I guess that was supposed to be funny - maybe there was an ongoing comparison between the two men at the time. I think actually saying a Rock Hudson type would have been funnier.

reply

Actually Clint Walker was more handsome than both of them. He definitely was in far better physical shape.

reply

i suppose you never heard he was gay either

Huge Cary Grant fan. The weirdest thing happened to me while watching this. No exaggeration I literally forgot what Grant looked like while watching Hudson. It was the strangest thing. Any other actor I could think of, I could picture. Not Cary. Spoooky….
