Beware the DVD

is shown full-frame and not in the correct AR. Can barely read the main titles because most of them are cut-off.

Hey--Criterion! You guys seem to appreciate Film Noir--how about acquiring the rights to this great film?

T'would be a wonderful thing if Criterion were to give this film the treatment. It is certainly worthy of their consideration.
Any time I see that something I'd really like to see/acquire is on MGM I always get that sinking feeling: MGM DVD release = barebones, no extras, no commentaries.

I watched this on Netflix a couple of times recently. (Great film noir by the way) The film was presented in 4 by 3. As I watched I kept thinking that the film was probably shot "open matte", that's to say shot in 4 by 3 for TV but framed to be presented in 1.85 or 1.66 theatrically. There is too much room above the actors heads during the full frame presentation not to be.

The film is intended to be shown "full frame."
