Rwanda 1994: Addressing the effects of Belgian colonialism

Since this movie came out in 1959, it obviously wasn't prepared to address the effect of colonialism, and how they instituted a de facto aphartheid system in the Belgian Congo that essentially discriminated between the lighter skinned Tutsuis and the dark-skinned Hutus.

Of course, this would all blow up into a genocidal civil war long after the colonialists had left when the inidigenous populations were left to their own devices, particularly in 1994-95.

What aspects, if any, of the colonial system were recognizable in this film, and to what extent did they or didn't they foreshadow what was to come, particularly knowing what we know happened in Rwanda in 1994-95?

One could argue most of the issues in Africa (especialy the difference between indigenous populations) are a legacy of colonialism!

I would say the lack of success the nun's seemed to have with the local population might have been a bit of a forshadowing.
