Excellent film.. .calling the native males "boys"...they were men not boys...the segregated hospital was, too.. ..bringing your prejudices with you to someone elses country the height of arrogance.. .

Agreed, but in the Congo of the 1930's white people would have referred to the male natives as "boys". The film was depicting what was just as Gone with the Wind portrayed slavery as it was in the 1860's.

The patois that the Africans spoke may very well have used "boy" instead of "man." "Plisboy" is the word for "policeman" in at least one African/English patois that I know of (can't remember which right now -- been ages since I took that class).

Is it the height of arrogance to bring your prejudices to a country it seems you know nothing about? Do you actually know what words Belgians in the Congo used for native men?
