"bump" is just a way to push a post in which you're interested to the head of the line/board.

There are times I wish I had one. In a soundproof bathroom so I could yell. With the stuff that goes on in my life I could just blow my stack.

Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.

There was that sister enduring a room with echoing stone walls, ceiling, and floor, with everyone in it shrieking gibberish at the top of their lungs! And the good news was, she had to endure it for 8-10 hours a day!! And the better news was, Sister Luke was going to be her assistant!!! Communicated to her in writing of course, since you couldn't make yourself heard over the noise. UGH.

I 'pray' that locking MENTALLY ILL women in bathtubs for 8-10 hours was not actually a treatment for mental illness at the time. It's not only creepy, it's sadistic TORTURE!
Having witnessed 'water boarding' which involves a very little water, it's definitely tame compared to this bathtub torture. From the screaming and banging from the patients, it's obviously not having a soothing or relaxing effect. If anything, that $ hit would make them crazier!
That whole scene literally made me sick!
In fact all the movies of that Era must have used the same actors for their mental institution scenes. Giggling women in shabby, torn clothing, always trying to touch or dance with the main character. Its all a COMPLETE MISCHARACTERIZATION of MENTAL ILLNESS at that time or any time in civilization!

Yes very disturbing. Please remember this is a 1959 film depicting the 30's/40's. This is how things were done back then. I have a problem with this site if viewers are constantly complaining about violent scenes or racism when in reality this is A History lesson as most old films are. Appreciate it for what it is or enjoy the garbage of today that change History all the time to please everyone.

Thank you! I watched "Lincoln," and was appalled at the historical drivel it contained. But it pleased the PC crowd, so they defended it.

I worked in an institution back in the 70s here in NY and the conditions/practices were deplorable. I saw people locked in cages on wheels but never in tubs like those shown.
I can not imagine how that must make a person feel !! If I weren't out of my mind before being locked into one of those contraptions, I would be after !!
And the problem is that the more you complain the more the more you convince those in
power over you that you are 'crazy'. Who wouldn't be crazy after even a morning locked up like that ? I started feeling queasy just watching this scene (and I thought I'd scene it all) !!
