Great fun in its own terms

This is a very entertaining version of a much-filmed story, but takes quite a few liberties. Cecile & the Bishop don't appear in the book, nor does the tarantula!! However, if you don't find the many alterations a problem, it's nice to see Cushing & Lee together again, and Cushing limbering up for his later BBC TV run as Holmes.

I watched it for the 2nd or 3rd time today and I think it's a good, fun film. I've been a Cushing and Lee fan over half my life and it is good to see them together in a mystery as opposed to a horror (although the horrors are great too!).

The best HOTB ever? My favorite version.

I found this film to be enjoyable and entertaining. Thanks for pointing out a few major differences between the original story, and this filmed version. I've never read the story and it was interesting to see what was added.
