What is he saying?

I am referring to the time when Michael and Katie are at the ruins, and Michael begins reciting something like: ". . . the hills of old Ireland how wonderously they stand" he continues, and Katie chimes in "the Normans, the Saxons, the Vikings, and the Danes" etc.

My question is, what the heck is this? Did someone just make this up for the movie? It sounds like a recitation of some great poem.

If anyone knows, let me know.

Okay, so with a little research, I found this myself. The poem is from one of Irish Poet, Father Desmond's collection. Very much part of the Irish nationalism, and a favorite for those wanting to display their Irish pride. Be forewarned though, if you go looking for this line, it's not only buried, but it's part of a hugely long poem. Happy reading.
