"There are actually two versions of the film's soundtrack. Several of the original Irish actors' accents (namely Darby, Sheila, King Brian and the leprechauns) were deemed too difficult for American audiences to understand and were consequently overdubbed with easier-to-understand voices, possibly from different voice actors. To the unsuspecting viewer the overdub is actually very polished and almost seamless, and dubbed voices do not seem out of place with the original actors. The original soundtrack also contains some dialogue in Irish, especially from King Brian and the leprechauns, which was subsequently changed in the overdubbed version to English alternatives. Both versions are used on television showings and also on DVD; interestingly and somewhat ironically, the Region 1 US/Canada DVD disc contains the original undubbed soundtrack and the Region 2 PAL disc uses the dubbed version."
I've only seen the movie once, the region 1 version. As I've not seen the movie before, I cannot tell if the movie has been dubbed. However, I've noticed the leprechauns speaking Gaelic (although the subtitles have the translation in English). Where are you? Maybe that's why...

Oh, you're good, hunnie! I tried looking for this information and was at a complete loss!
Having been raised on the movie, I can definitely tell you that it's different voice actors! Well for certain in Darby and King Brian's case! Although, the dubbing ~is~ pretty seamless... Just lacks so much emotion that the original had though!
The weird thing is, I live in the US! I shouldn't be affected according to this information! And I always LIKED the Gaelic too! *pouts*

Maybe the Region 2 PAL was dubbed for the benefit of Europeans who know English as a second language, and would have difficulty with a thick Irish accent, as opposed to the British "non-accent" accent they learn as spoken English.

I can safely say to you that Sean Connery was dubbed over by a famous irish tenor called Brendan O'Dowda.
I know this as he was my father.
I know Ruby Murray was another singer that voiced over a character

As reported elsewhere in this forum, Mr. Connery and Ms. Munro had their singing voices provided by Brendan O'Dowd and Ruby Murray. Having just seen the film again, Ruby Murray's voice is so unmistakeable that they might just as well have given her an onscreen credit. In the case of Sean Connery, the producers managed to match his speaking and singing voices quite well.

Was it posted on April 1st ? I have heard the original soundtrack version of the songs and the versions on film and they sure sound alike. I read a very old interview where Janet Munro and Sean Connery talked about recording the songs after having a few drinks.
I have no good reason and suspect that monkeys possess some sort of soul. Geode
