the world's most overlooked Disney gem

one of the best films of its kind and its still sadly underappreciated. Albert Sharpe Janet munroe Sean Connery Jimmy O'Dea and Kieron Moore all give oscar performances and the effects (although dated somewhat) still hold up quite well to this day. plus the Banshee and Death Coach scenes are still pretty scary and the songs are all catchy as well. A great Classic to watch on St. Paddy's day or any old time!

I agree, Ricky. I just finished watching "The Fox Chase" on YouTube. Wonderful music by Oliver Wallace (a true genius IMO, and about as overlooked among film composers as Darby is among films), charming leprechauns--they could sell me breakfast cereal any time --and beautiful tiny white horses.

Unfortunately, when this movie was originally released in 1959, it did mediocre business at the box office...while The Shaggy Dog (the first version with Tommy Kirk, Fred MacMurray, and Jean Hagen) cleaned up. So for the Disney Studio, that just about guaranteed that more movies on the level of TSD (which cost very little to make) would be produced than those on the level of Darby (which cost a LOT--by that era's standards--to make).

Slightly disagree - I always found "Almost Angels" to be the best hidden Disney gem, but at least this one was brought to DVD which the other one wasn't.
