Did Mike hear the Banshee

Before Mike and Darby go up the mountain to look for Katie, Darby hears the Banshee wailing. I've always been curious if Mike heard it to. Because Mike did not show any reaction to the noise until Darby told him he heard the Banshee. I was just wondering if Mike heard it to.

reply

He probably did but thought it was the wind blowing. As far as I know a banshees wail can easily be mistaken for the wind.

It's hard to say. Banshees attach themselves to specific families. Since Michael wasn't an O'Gill, it's possible that he couldn't hear the banshee. However, for all his poo-poohing Darby's stories about leprechauns, he looked concerned enough when Darby identified where the eerie wail was coming from.

Banshees attach themselves to the top 5 Irish families (I'm not sure which, just look up 'Banshee' it the names are on about every page) and anyone who's last name begins in an "O" or a "Mc/Mac". I find this fascinating, because my great-grandmother's maiden name was McBride, so I actually have a Banshee with my family!

"I see that you have a large Adam's apple and am very tempted to reach over and touch it."

reply

Well, then it's entirely possible that Michael McBride had a banshee of his own. Now we have an interesting question (sorry, but this is how my mind works). The O'Gills have a family Banshee and the McBrides have a family banshee. Katie O'Gill (the last of her family name) marries Michael McBride. Which banshee (the O'Gill banshee or the McBride banshee) watches over them?

Probably wouldn't happen, according to wiki at least the five "Great Families" are considered to be the O'Gradys, the O'Neills, the O'Briens, the O'Connors, and the Kavanaghs

So by that logic neither family would have a Bean Si but since one has obviously attached themselves to The O'Gils, Michael being an outsider might not hear it or would be more likely to pass it off as the wind.

And let's not forget that it's entirely plausible that everything supernatural that Darby experienced was in his head. Clues were everywhere.
