I saw this film today on Hallmark Movie Channel, and it sounds like Albert Sharpe's (Darby O'Gill's) and Jimmy O'Dea's (King Brian) voices have been dubbed over at the very beginning. Voices are significantly deeper than I recall from multiple viewings of this film in my youth, and the sound doesn't seem completely synced. At a few points it goes back to original higher voices and stronger accents. Anyone else noticed this in a television version of the film? This isn't the version they showed on the Disney Channel years ago.

Yes...Hate it. Get the DVD and you will have the original Gaelic words...

I was extremely disappointed when I saw it on Hallmark Channel a few months ago. It's on right now, and I am just sick at the way it sounds. What's wrong with having the strong accents, and even the Gaelic language? It adds to the charm of the movie. I'm glad I have the DVD.

I don't understand why it would have been dubbed over for tv. I am very happy though with the DVD.

This is why I loved Walt Disney's input in his films - his movies were much closer in spirit to the original fairy tales of old. No doubt the Hallmark people felt the Irish accents would be challenging for North Americans to understand but I much prefer the original; it's part of what made Walt's films special.

I hated it. Plus didn't they change Pony's name to Tony?

Glad to hear that the Irish (Gaelic) is restored on the DVD. I've been studying the language for a long time and am curious to see the movie again now that I can understand it.
