Blue Denim now on Veoh TV
Blue Denim is now available for download on Veoh Tv, by using Google. I found it quite by accident. I have been friends with Nina Shipman, who played Brandon de Wilde's older sister. Her grandmother was an early pioneer in movie production, making independent films with animals. Her father was Barry Shipman who wrote many of the Republic serials and the Durango Kid western series before going into television. She loaned me her copy which had been taped off of television. Twentieth Century Fox never released Blue Denim to video distribution so the only way a copy could be obtained was from random viewings. Despite its soap opera approach to teen pregnancy, it was a Broadway play prior to being released to the screen. It was the format of all teenage pictures dealing with pregnancy or conflict, with the parents never realizing that their children had a problem before it was too late. Obviously it was more realistic than the Father Knows Best idealism being shown on television, but at the same time, it cannot be taken seriously by students of the Fifties as completely historically accurate. What should be noticed is the actors themselves. Several of them like Nina Shipman went on to television careers. Warren Berlinger, Roberta Shore and of course Brandon de Wilde and Carol Lynley.
