Barbara and Sidney?

Barbara was the divorced single mother and wasn't Sidney Carter the married man she loved but broke up with? Well, they seemed to really care for each other in the film but their story wasn't resolved at all. What happened to them in the book?

They have a considerably bigger story line in the book, and even come off sympathetically as a couple--more so than the other couples in the book. Spoiler: their story is resolved happily.

In the book they marry. Sidney's wife falls in love with someone else leaving Sidney free.
