Pilate existed for real , there is coinage of him and other proof

So did Herod the Great (coinage of him too).

reply

I don't think their historical existence was much doubted.

But that doesn't in any way validate their use as characters in the Jesus mythos.

reply

Well, more proof that the Bible is true and Christ really was God (in addition to archaeology like that mentioned above) is that there is much scientific accuracy in the Bible (Earth being in the Holy Book, condensation/evaporation described for water and on Earth and clouds in sky, correct order of creation and so on.

reply

what are you even talking about? Nothing proves that the Bible is true.

reply

What a load of irrational hooey. I can prove that Los Angeles exists, therefore Zorro really lived. I can prove there is an African jungle, therefore Tarzan really lived. Come on, morons, give us a break.

reply

So you're saying what exactly? That there was no Jesus?

reply

There are no existing eyewitness or contemporary accounts of Jesus. All we have are later descriptions of Jesus’ life events by non-eyewitnesses, most of whom are obviously biased.

reply

The gospels might have been written only decades after the time though.
So they would be based on eye witness accounts.
And even if that's not true, that still doesn't mean that Jesus never existed.

reply

It was 40 years after and It is a FACT none of it was from an eyewitness account. Search the web. Just a bunch of guys writing random stories same as how other religions were created. Had Jesus existed there would have been some kind of written recorded history. Again search the web and not religious sites and look only for recorded history not fake artifacts people claim belonged to Christ.

——-

Written over the course of almost a century after Jesus' death, the four gospels of the New Testament, though they tell the same story, reflect very different ideas and concerns. A period of forty years separates the death of Jesus from the writing of the first gospel.

reply

Forty years will be close enough, that a gospel could have been written by people who talked to eye witnesses.
The mere fact that all the gospels and Christianity itself exist proves that Jesus also existed.
Even if you don't believe that he was the son of God, it is clear that Jesus was a real historical person.
And if there was no historical Jesus, what reason would anybody have to make him up from scratch?
That would make no sense to me.
And we can see in Paul's epistles that Peter and the other disciples existed.
So why is it such a stretch that Jesus also existed?
And lastly, how can you know that those "non-religious" sites won't be biased from their viewpoint?
I'm not saying that Christian sites have no bias, but that doesn't mean that the other side is better.

reply

Yes, I'm saying there was no Jesus, at least no supernatural messiah Jesus.

Pilate existed? Yeah, so what. FDR existed, so Orphan Annie must be real, too.

reply

Every historian and archaeologist knows this.

reply

Every historian and archaeologist knows Pilate existed. I'm a professional archaeologist and historian of several decades experience myself. But the existence of Pilate cannot be logically extrapolated to prove that Jesus existed.
