Check out Agnes Moorehead in this, then watch her performance as a white trash housekeeper in Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte, which was made 5 years later. Hard to believe the same woman played both roles, proving that Aggie could do anything!

Indeed, Agnes was a very versatile actor, who could play just about any kind of character. It's a shame she wasn't cast in more starring roles, but we'll always have The Bat.
