Irresistible impulse, what case in the 1800s?

Does anybody know what was the name of the case from the 1800s with the president that used irresistible impulse in it?

reply

People v Durfee 62 Mich 487 (1886)-- the case has been superseded by statute and later case law.

reply

Ah, but with today's magic of Westlaw and Lexis, can you tell us if it already had been superceded by statute and later case law in 1959? I'd be curious. Because Dancer slumped when he heard the case, with the direct implcation that he knew all about it, and it was still good law at the time of the movie.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

The film was very well researched by a team of attorneys. Otto Preminger insisted upon it, so I am sure the case was still good law in 1959. And it was only in the 1980's, after John Hinckley got off for shooting Reagan by reason of insanity, that the public became outraged about the insanity defense and state & federal statutes were passed against it.

reply

"Precedent."
