Lets hear it for the U.P!

Only major movie I have seen to be based in the upper peninsula of Michigan unless you count Somewhere In Time which was filmed on Mackinac Island. Favorite place of mine to vacation during the summer months when I lived in Michigan (20 years ago). Anyone know of another well known film shot or based in the U. P.?

Except based on the references made, it didn't seem to be in the actual U.P., but rather in the northern portion of the L.P. Or are Michiganders calling any rural portion of the state north of Saginaw the "U.P." now?

Marquette, Big Bay, Ishpeming, and Michigamme are all located in the Upper Peninsula. This is where most of the movie was shot and where the real murder occurred that the book was based on. The author, Robert Traver (pen name of lawyer John Voelker) is from Ishpeming. Not sure what towns you are thinking of. Probably Bay City which is close to Saginaw but has no mention in Anatomy of a Murder that I can recall.
