I'm confused about why everyone missed the To Kill A Mockingbird defense

Laura had a black eye - on her right side. Mannion was a lefty. Barney was a righty.

How do I know? Look at how Mannion holds his cigarette - in his left hand, both times we see him smoking. I don't smoke, so I checked on how Paul held his - in his right hand. Paul is also seen writing on a pad in the law library with his right hand. Paul's a righty, and that makes Mannion a lefty.

Barney was a righty because in the photos of him on the wall of the bar, he's holding his pistol in his right hand, AND he's in a boxing stance with his left glove in front as protection, with the right glove behind. That is the classic right-handed stance. Southpaws stand opposite to this, leading with their right.

Mannion being a lefty means that his left would have been the punch that blackened Laura's right eye. Look at it in a mirror if you don't believe me.

I admit I didn't pick up on this the first couple of times I saw this, but then again, I wasn't one of the attorneys on the case. How could Dancer and the D.A. miss this?
