Anyone else think the judge stole the movie?

I was hoping to find a thread from someone who loved the character (played by the real life "have you no sense of decency" lawyer for the Army in the McCarthy hearings), but the only thread on the guy actually, bizarrely, takes the opposite position!

I thought he was awesome, with great quips that had me cracking up regularly.

I agree. I thought the judge was great.

the movie was very interesting with the squabbling between the lawyers.
and the flirtatious wife.. and jealous husband.

definitely leaves it up to each viewer... guilty or innocent.
I thought very well done.

I loved the judge too. It's funny how he seems to be the most serene of all the characters.

Its like "Oh, i've been so many times in cases like these that i dont care.", haha.

Which equanimity is a great characteristic for a judge!

He was great. He has always been a huge hero of mine. I loved seeing him in this.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Count me as someone who grew a bit tired of the judge. He's someone who seems to laugh at his own jokes & enjoy his own anecdotes the most.
I've had school teachers & profs like him, holy smokes the 'not where I come from... but I'll allow it' stuff gets worn out quickly.

I thought he was great. I didn't know who he was when I started watching....and when he comes in and starts talking about how it'll be very easy for the attorney's to awaken him with a good point of law, I thought, this guy sounds like a real lawman! Sure enough....

It's also interesting to note that director Otto Preminger held a law degree, although he never practiced. I think all this gives the film a certain authority that many courtroom dramas lack.

I didn't know that! Interesting.

Only Morris Ankrum could have done any better.

It's hype to say he "stole" the film but he was pretty good.
