It was interesting to see a very young (and youthful-looking) George C. Scott in one of his earliest role. It was also entertaining to see several others familiar faces in supporting/cameo roles:

Murray Hamilton (better known as Mayor Vaughn in Jaws) as the bartender

Joseph Kearns (Mr. Wilson from the TV show Dennis the Menace) as the crime scene photographer.

Duke Ellington at the piano

etc.

I thought Duke Ellington and Biegler talking like 50s hipsters was kinda squirmy embarrassing.

Murray Hamilton excelled at playing a weasely rat and made quite a good career of it. Another big name movie he was in is 'The Graduate' where he plays "Mr" Robinson to Ann Bancroft's Mrs. Robinson.
