July 4 Marathon on Decades

I've been informed there will be a marathon on the Decades channel.

reply

Yes they have decided to rum it since Syfy decided not to air it. I doubt many even have access to Decades. We get it through our outside antenna channel 11.2 from Dallas.

reply

Yes, we don't get that channel around here. Maybe I'll load it up on Netflix and program my own marathon!

reply

Yes, looking at the Decades schedule, I see they're running it all day from (eastern time) 7 am on the 4th to 7 am on the 5th, with the exception of one hour at 11 pm for their daily "Through the Decades" program. http://www.decades.com/schedule/

I don't get Decades on Cox cable in my own room, but my roommate (who owns the house) doesn't have cable, and gets Decades over the air, so I can go into another room to see it.

reply

Thanks- I don't have that on my cable system. Bummer.

reply

Just go buy a $10 antenna and watch it that way.

reply

BigJackRutgers, I've been about to excitedly share that information if no one else has, but see that it's now forty-eight hour old news. I'm thrilled that we're not losing anything after all! We get Decades, and someone watching it an hour ago has seen the ad for the marathon. It's been discovered just in time here! I hope that everyone who has an airing of Decades will still want to engage in our usual holiday gathering.

reply

I don't have that channel, as I imagine a lot of people don't. However, if somebody can find the schedule, folks with Netflix can follow right along.

reply

Certainly, it's on Decades' website. Go to schedule and click on July 4, just like we would for Syfy.

Alright! LOL! I get Decades. Of course, I get Netflix too, so I can watch TZ whenever I want. I also have the Definitive Collection Box Set of DVDs. I've got it covered as far as the TZ goes.
What I no longer have is SYFy. WE cut the cable about 7 or 8 years ago. I so looked forward to those marathons. It meant that I could watch with all of my IMDb TZ family. We not only watched and discussed the episodes together. We planned ahead of the marathons. We told each other what snacks we had ready for the big event!
I truly do feel bad for all of the people who get SyFY and have no other way of getting their TZ fix!

reply

Now, despite being cable-less, you can now watch it on Decades with others if you like. So what snacks WILL you have ready?

Also, Miss Margo, given the nature of your name, you may want to check out the post I just made on the Bette Davis page.

Hi Tristan!
Yes. I can see it on Decades. The antenna on our roof gets us about 14 or 15 channels, Decades being one of them.
Since it's the 4th, we'll have barbecue type things. Brats, Hamburgers, Grilled Corn, Mellon, assorted salads and lots of beer!
Some folks will be here, but inside, I'll have TZ playing. My family and friends all know me well, so it's a tradition on the 4th and NewYear's Eve. The past 8 years we played my DVDs , but after we started streaming, we had Netflix, so we watch it quite a bit on that.

Now what will you be snacking on?????

I'll check out the Bette Davis board.

Pretty good list though they did exclude some gems -- "Third From The Sun," "Shadow Play," "Five Characters in Search of an Exit," "The Last Flight," "A World of Difference," "Perchance to Dream," "In His Image," "Miniature,""The Midnight Sun" ... -- in favor of shit like "The Fever," "Once Upon A Time," "The Man in the Bottle," "The Chaser, "A Thing About Machines," "Caesar and Me," "The Bewitchin' Pool," and, the absolute nadir of "TZ," "Cavender is Coming."

reply

True, but SyFy didn't always include every one of the episodes in the marathons. Either. Some would air on the 4th and others would air on New Year's Eve.
I'm just surprised that Decades is doing this. Did they get wind of the fact that SyFy was doing an about face on the marathon?
I did notice those stinkers they included, but they did include some great ones too.
Walking Distance
A Stop at Willoughby
Living Doll
22
Obsolete Man
Nothing in the Dark...Just a few of my faves..... and others.

reply

I can understand when the likes of "The Last Flight" and "Shadow Play" get excluded -- they're deep cuts and only completists like ourselves are aware of their greatness -- but, to overlook all-time classics like "The Midnight Sun" that even the layperson has some knowledge of, is suspect.

reply

No "TZ" Marathon is a proper "TZ" Marathon without the episodes you listed.

reply

❤️️
Will you be watching, Turnip?

reply

I honestly have never been home much on the Fourth so the SyFy's "TZ"'s marathon during this time doesn't resonate with me the way is does others. Now, the New Year's one, when it's cold, and I'm indoors, is one I have a history with, and eagerly await yearly.

How about you?

reply

Here would be my Marathon incidentally

Where is Everybody
Walking Distance
The Lonely
Time Enough at Last
Perchance to Dream
Judgment Night
And When The Sky Was Opened
Third From The Sun
The Hitch hiker
The Last Flight
Mirror Image
The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street
A World of Difference
A Stop at Willoughby
The After Hours
Eye of the Beholder
Nick of Time
Shadow Play
The Silence
Twenty Two
The Invaders
The Howling Man
The Obsolete Man
It's A Good Life
Deaths Head Revisited
The Midnight Sun
Five Characters in Search of An Exit
Nothing in the Dark
The Dummy
To Serve Man
Person or Persons Unknown
In His Image
Miniature
The Parallel
Nightmare at Twenty Thousand Feet
Living Doll
Night Call
Ring A Ding Girl
Number 12 Looks Just Like You
The Masks
Stopover in a Quiet Town
Long Live Walter Jameson
The Odyssey of Flight 33
Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up
A Game of Pool

These are all pretty dark ones ... which is what I like about them (of course, even my list had to exclude some winners -- but, at least, I feel anyway, I didn't include any outright stinkers along the lines of "The Bard").

What would your Marathon look like?

reply

Strike "It's A Good Life" in favor of "King Nine Will Not Return" and you've got a list I could be quite happy with. I think I'd add "The Encounter" as well, though.

reply

"King Nine," with its "Nightmare on Elm Street"-esque ending -- Embry brings something out of his dream (or, was it a dream?) -- is one I would gladly show over the ubiquitous likes of "Good Life."

reply

HOW can you skip It's A Good Life? It's the story that predicted the New Puritanism of the 21st Century! Plus, that kid makes me laugh through the whole episode!

reply

Elementary... When you strip it down to brass tacks, at its heart "It's A Good Life" is nothing more (and nothing less) than a lasting monument to cowardice. New Puritanism my hind foot...

reply

No need to get defensive. If you don't think that episode (and short story) predicted the "SJW," you're either blind or one of them and embarrassed to admit it.

reply

Now what will you be snacking on?????

The one thing I know for sure is that gin will be involved.
As to an actual meal, my roommate generally does the cooking, so I'm not sure.
Snack-wise, probably chips and salsa.

reply

I hope you have a decanter. No zonie should drink without one.

reply

Well, I have many different brands, so that would be a lot of decanters.

reply

Do you think Gart Williams had a different decanter for every brand he had?

reply

I think Gart had enough trouble paying for the house.

reply

Or that window seat on the train to and from work.

reply

Brats, Hamburgers, Grilled Corn, Mellon, assorted salads and lots of beer!

Did you know Mellon means friend in Elvish? Burgers, corn, salads and beer are good for a cookout, but why you gotta go eating spoiled punk kids and friendly elves?

reply

Good news is Decades won't chop the episodes up the way SyFy does. Plus, no irritating Syfy commercials. They're the worst!

reply

Decades is on YouTube TV. You can probably get a free trial of YouTube TV and start using it today to watch the Twilight Zone Marathon. Sorry, I don't mean to be advertising for them, but I figure it's a good way for anybody who doesn't get decades already to see it.

reply

I don't get Decades. This is just another disgrace. Fuck SyFy
