A Most Unusual Camera

This is rather a silly episode, but I think it could have been quite interesting if they did it as a drama instead of a comedy. Showing the pitfalls of greed and materialism, or maybe object-worship. What do y'all think?

All the comedy episodes, IMHO, would be better served if given a more serious treatment. I remember reading once that Matheson originally intended "A World of his Own" to be a much darker story before the powers that be requested he lighten it up. Had they shot "A World of his Own" the way Matheson originally intended it I probably would count it among my favs -- its concept, after all, is a fascinating one (but then, most of Matheson's scripts were fascinating).

reply

I agree.

The one thing I always note about "A World of his Own" is the set. I love it a lot. I wish I could have that exact study/office in my house.

reply

Me too.

An environment ideal for creating and unwinding.

reply

Honestly thought it was one of the more memorable episodes.

reply

Interesting. I never thought of this as a comedy episode. Sure, it had some humorous moments in it, but nothing over the top. When I think of humorous TZ episodes, I think of something like Once Upon a Time (Buster Keaton).

reply

I would consider it more of a dramedy than a pure comedy. Despite it not being a pure drama, I believe they did show the elements of greed, materialism, and object worship.

My real reason for posting is that I think Paula has one of the most severe cases of smoker's voice I think I've ever heard. She could have done Patty and Selma's voices and not even changed her natural voice!

Jean Carson (Paula) was also one of the "fun girls" on The Andy Griffith Show, and her voice is one of the reasons I've never liked the fun girls. (They're also just really annoying.)

reply

Those girls are second only to Ernest T. Bass for the "worst characters" award with the Darlings close behind in third. For such a great show they had some annoying characters.

reply

I'd have to disagree about the Darling boys. They didn't talk, and they played good music.

reply

Maggie Peterson (Charlene) was an excellent singer, too.

reply

I did get a kick every time Paula said "Woodward". It just sounded so odd.

reply

Paula was a hoot! I loved her Palpitations! LOL!
This one may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I did like the twist ending.

It's true. Just goes to show you that when you tamper with these things you are messing with fate!
It's that butterfly effect.

I enjoy the french server-dude who comes in and starts robbing the thieves. LOL
