Speaking of Kanamit facial expressions, notice how the guy who's weighing people as they enter the ship is positively grinning when they weigh a lot. I guess the Kanamits don't mind fat calories.

Richard "Jaws" Kiel? It would take some serious space munchies to make me want to eat a race that was sentient. Or to eat food that an alien had picked up off the floor for that matter. Also why didn't the aliens just take pigs since that's what human flesh tastes closest too. At least that's what I've heard.

That would explain why the Kanamits need to take over other planets and eat everyone. They simply have the munchies.
