I can't think of another "TZ" episode -- heck, another piece of TV -- quite like it. With a little more clarity this might have been one of the greats. As it stands it's an immersive curio that leaves me humming its titular tune for days.
funny you should say that, because this is the only episode not adapted into a radio version on "twilight zone radio dramas", i have no idea why, after all they have remade tv episodes that had no dialogue! so in that way it literary stands out. as a huge fan of the radio dramas i really think this would have been appreciated as an audio only episode with that haunting tune, i suppose "jess belle" can work as a substitute, but i get what you mean about this episode, its really mystic, its hard to tell what its really about, i suppose its up to each one of us to make our own interpretation of it. here's a fact you might enjoy, this was the very last twilight zone episode to be filmed, but not the last to air. i happen to like the episode.

in summer evening,
sunshine through the night,
since you stayed nearby all through vacation time,
knew chill was coming around my head hangin down,
as because of economy you drifted far out of sight.
This episodes makes me think -- which is why I love it. "The Arrival," "Shadow Play," "And When The Sky Was Opened," "The New Exhibit," "Mirror Image" are others absolutely determined not to explain themselves. Don't get me wrong: I love "TZ" in parable mood. But, I also adore "TZ" when its mysterious and unclear -- much like life itself.
If "The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas" can adapt nearly wordless episodes of "TZ" like "The Invaders" and "Two" to radio than they should have no problem translating an equally avant-garde piece of work like "Come Wander With Me."
I love this episode. I have never really understood people's intense hatred for this episode. I have seen it many times and still don't quite understand the ending but I just love the haunting feel of the episode and that song. I also love the rural setting. Not a lot of Twilight Zones have such a rural backwoods-type setting.
