What was your favorite Old West "Twilight Zone"?

I've always enjoyed "Mr. Denton On Doomsday." It feels like two stories combined, with the first being a former gunslinger reclaiming his self-worth and reputation, and the second revolving around said gunslinger now having to defend his title from the young bucks who want to strip him of it. Dan Duryea does a tremendous job as the titular Mr. Denton, Mr. Serling's script is strong (no surprise there), and the twist (spoiler ahead), with Mr. Denton and the young challenger both sporting the same elixir that promises its imbiber improved marksmanship, caught me off-guard. All in all, I think it's for me anyway "TZ"'s most accomplished oater.

First, it depends on which episodes you're counting as "old west." If you mean anything in the western part of the U.S. in the distant past, I would say "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim." But if you mean "old west" as in "a western," that gets more difficult because I've never liked westerns. The only one I ever went to see on purpose was Silverado, and that was only because it had John Cleese in it.

I'm going to say "The Grave" as well as "Mr. Garrity and the Graves" for their clever endings.

I wouldn't count "Execution" or " A Hundred Yards Over The Rim" because while part of them takes place in covered-wagon times the other part takes place in the present. And I think in order to qualify as an "Old West TZ" you have to take place strictly in the Old West. "Rance (or, as I like to call it, "Rancid") McGrew I don't think qualifies either even though it's awash in Old West trappings.

Then I going to second "The Grave" and "Mr. Garrity and the Graves." Always liked Mr. Denton as well. I didn't like "Dust." That's about all the western episodes I can think of.

I'll go for The Grave. It's first rate all the way. A great tale, too; a tall tale.

Dust.

Denton is great, but The Grave all the way.

I prefer Denton though The Grave's cast, and slow-burn feel, is hard to beat.
