Coming to Encore Westerns in July 2015

I just saw an ad on Encore Westerns that Laramie will be starting on Encore Westerns in July. It said that this will be the only channel on which to see Laramie.

The series is currently showing on Grit TV several times each weekday. I am wondering if Laramie won't be on Grit TV once it starts on Encore Westerns.

You wouldn't happen to know what show it might be replacing, would you?

reply

No, I haven't seen anything about when Laramie will be shown. Right now, it's running on Grit TV 3 times a day. It's on right now, as a matter of fact. Grit TV is only on over the air. I didn't even know I had access to it until I hit the channel up button on my little antenna TV in the guest bedroom. My NBC channel is on 11.1, THIS TV is 11.2, and I found Grit TV on 11.3. It's a good channel with all action movies and series and westerns. I am hoping they add it to my cable lineup. If you check out the Grit TV web site, you can find out if it is on in your area.

To make room for Laramie, instead of showing two episodes of
Bat Masterson and two Wanted Dead or Alive, EW are only
showing one episode of each of those two shows now.

Thank you, Jamesbwill.

Looks like Laramie will be shown on Encore Westerns on weekdays at 440PM Central Time beginning In July.

I'm watching the first episode, "Stage Stop," on Encore right now, and it's in color! I had no idea the first season was in color. The quality is fabulous.

reply

The "Stage Stop" episode just ended.

Great episode!

I thought the initial season or two were B&W, but Encore just showed the first episode in color. Can someone explain? Was it shot in color but originally aired in B&W?

reply

The pilot was shot in color. NBC was a pioneer in color (they were owned by television-set manufacturer RCA) and it wasn't unusual for them to shoot pilots or test episodes of some of their series in color to get an idea of how the show would look in color. That happened here. "Hazel" and "Wagon Train" also had test episodes in color before those shows started regularly shooting in color.

And who in 1959 (Copyright date) owned a color tv?

It would be about 1964 or 65 when I saw my first color set.

My pop bought the family a color tv for the first Superbowl in 1967.

reply

Laramie is still being run 3 times a day weekdays on Grit TV.

So it can be seen on both Encore Westerns and Grit TV.

Rich people and technophiles had color TVs back then.

Bonanza started in 1959 and every episode was in color. When the Walt Disney anthology moved to NBC in 1961, it went to color. Few people had color TV sets at the time, but RCA used color programming to sell the TVs. After all, if no one was broadcasting in color, why would one buy a color TV?

My own family didn't get a color TV until 1972.
