Why did Hoagy + Robert Crawford Jr Leave?
Anyone know why Hoagy Carmichael left after season one and Robert Crawford Jr. left during the early part of the second season?

shareHoagy was fired because he often went golfing forgetting when he had to work, Bobby was not but I am not sure how his leaving came about.
shareA pity we didn't get to see Hoagy in the whole series. (Spring Byington was a poor substitute.) Always liked to see Hoagy pop up in movies, etc.
After watching three episodes, I wouldn't be surprised if someone decided they needed to get Andy off the show because of how often bad guys were pointing guns at a kid. I, myself, however, am pleasantly surprised that, while not making a big deal of it, the villains have no compunction about killing a child (e.g., John Hoyt and Brian Keith in "The General Must Die").
Je suis Charlie Hebdo.
Bobby chose to leave of his own volition because he wanted to just be a normal kid. Go to school with friends, not be an "actor". He did come back a few times in S2, but after that, never did again.
shareNot sure about Crawford, as he made some infrequent appearances during the second season, but Hoagy simply wanted out of doing weekly television.
It seems the producers quickly noticed how much of a factor the relationship between Jess and Andy (Crawford's character) was to the show's chemistry, as they immediately did a reset with the third season with Spring Byington stepping into Hoagy's function and Dennis Holmes as Mike taking the place of Crawford, and the series regained much of the feel of the first season.
I thought Bobby Crawford was great-he and Jess did have great chemistry from the 1st episode on, Bobby was a very good actor. Hoagy'was ok.
But after the "switch", I did like Daisy and Mike in seasons 3 and 4. Enjoyed their intoductory episodes, for all Iits worth Daisy was like their Mom/grandma/aunt and Mike was like their nephew. I felt Spring brought a warmth and family/motherly touch to the show, they all seemed to have a good chemistry.
Over the course of the 1st season I began to notice a subtle change in Hoagy. His character was always a little gruff, but as the season winded down I got the distinct impression that he wasn't enjoying himself.
The fact that he wrote Marry Me in Laramie was a sign that he was pleased to get the part, at least initially. But as the season ended it seemed to me that his heart was no longer there.

If you're going to badmouth someone in the cast, you could try to remember the name....he's Robert Crawford...Johnny Crawford was on Rifleman buthole
shareThe homophobe at Warlock72 needs to have his post here deleted. Using words like "fairy," insinuating bizarrely that Crawford's character (and he gets the name wrong) was sexually provocative and making other homophobic references are not things that should be accepted on the IMDB site.
The IMDB site is the internet reference of record for entertainment information and critiques. It is not some backwater hate-speech site where bigots are to be encouraged to drool their invective so they can achieve their passive-aggressive pleasures. There are appropriately low places this "critic" would find his nastiness more appropriate.
As for the misuse of the term "Warlock," the poster risks the triple consequences of abusing the Wiccan Rede of "do as thou wilt" without applying the crucial part that states "an it harm none." Hate speech is harmful. Such impropriety is not a small thing.
I wish I had gotten to read the Warlock72 post. On the other hand, I am so glad that I didn't! That kind of hate does not belong here! There are many other places where that kind of hate is acceptable. This is a place for comments, comments about a particular show, shows or actors. It appalls me that people think that kind of "poison" is ok or welcomed here. It's not and frankly, I am positive that most people think the same. So, please, anyone who wants to spew "poison", take it where people wants that kind of crap. Not here. I thank the "administration of imdb.com for deleting such garbage. To ALL the people who do write comments about these wonderful shows from the past, I thank you. It provokes memories long forgotten, but welcomed..
