Joke lyrics stuck in my head.

Heckle and Jeckle were talking yellow-billed magpies in a series of cartoon short films produced by TerryToons from 1946 to 1966. Those theatrical shorts played on tv in The Heckle and Jeckle Show from 1956 to 1966. And various comic book publishers published Heckle and Jeckle comics from about 1951 to 1977.

And I remember reading a comic about 60 years ago, where they were in the old west. There was a shootout - in a hotel - I think. And after the shootout they flattered the winner by saying: "You must be Bat Masterful".

And ever since, when I remember or hear the Bat Masterson theme song, I tend to hear the lyrics differently:

His name was Bat, Bat Masterful

So a full vision of the song with "Masterful" might be:

Back before the Wild West was done
One man was quickest with a gun
He was courageous and resourceful
They called him Bat, Bat Masterful

A man of steel, the stories say
But women's eyes all glanced his way
In gambling he was always successful
His name was Bat, Bat Masterful

The trail that he blazed is still there
No one has come since, to replace his name
And those with too ready a trigger
Forgot to figure on his lightning cane

Now in the legend of the west
One name stands out of all the rest
The man who was with courage full
His name was Bat, Bat Masterful
