The $20 dollar bill

In the barracks scene during Ackerman’s basic training, the other soldiers return a $20 Bill they originally stole from him. The camera literally focuses on it at close range for several seconds. The bill is ridiculously fake. The script on the bill says “TWENTY DULLERS” and “UNITED STATES OF AREMICA”. I guess they couldn’t find a 1940’s $20 at the time of making the movie but man, why focus on such a laughably fake bill which gives the impression the other soldiers are passing Ackerman a counterfeit

I've watched the film several times and never noticed that the bill is counterfeit, probably because the scene is so quick there's little time to notice the details unless you freeze frame it.

No doubt it was a joke on part of the filmmakers.

IMDB trivia mentions this. Part of the unwritten rules of the time was that real or realistic looking money could not be photographed in films. It also mentions that this was the tail end of that, and some other films around the same time had no issues showing realistic money.
