do you think the casting of Dean Martin works in this movie?

This is a very serious and dark movie, while having Martin in there unbalances it a bit, maybe that's the point. he's a bit too carefree and I can't help but think of him in the Jerry Lewis pictures.

He was perfect for the role. The character is a playboy entertainer with a beautiful girlfriend and a great apartment. He has a new show coming out and clearly isn't interested in politics or serving his country by being away for three of four years.

I didn't read the book, but Martin's facial expressions alone when he helped liberate the concentration camp conveyed to me that he finally realized that his involvement was for a noble cause. I think it was a great piece of acting especially when your acting with Monty Cliff who can blow you off the screen.

Well enough. He wasn't amazing, but he was at least adequate.
