Peeping-Tom cowboy...

I love the way the creepy ~evil~ cowboy lurks outside Jessica's window as she is primping, and then LEAVES just as she starts to take off her dress....not bloody likely!!

Absolutely right, and then he tricks his goon into trying to open the chest but leaves to BACK to the girl as soon as the goon gets started.

He specialized in playing scummy characters. He was the racist guy who spit in Atticus face in "To Kill A Mockingbird".

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing

What I found even more unlikely, is that Linda and her fiancé are at this ranch on vacation, and not only are they NOT sharing a room, but she's sharing a room ( AND BED ) with JESSICA ! I can't believe Svengoolie didn't make a wisecrack
about this !

reply

In the 1950s, an unmarried couple sharing a room would be a tad outrageous.

Also, Linda is only sharing a bed with Jessica because Jessica moved out of the house when the box was brought in & she didn't want to be near it. Since the cabin was for one, it would logically only have one bed.

Jolene ?? Do you know who Svengoolie is ? He's a horror movie Host on METV, similar to Elvira, who shows all the old silly low-budget films and takes advantage of every opportunity to make a wisecrack to imply something decadent....

reply

smurky, I actually watched the movie that way.

Just saying it is not "unlikely" an unmarried couple didn't room together in the 1950s etc. As to him making a wisecrack, sure ... did he make gay humor in the past?

reply

I know all that, Jolene, I was just making like Svengoolie for laughs, just joining in the conversation, which is what Message Boards are all about....so tell me, did you like the movie ? It's one of my favorites from that era!
I'm also a Fan of William Reynolds, who I've seen in a lot of the old Westerns, like Maverick. The actor who was the Devil Worshipper ( the disembodied head ), was in one of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone, "The Howling Man ", and he was the actual Devil in that !

reply

Robin Hughes was good as the devil or as a diabolical character, starred in only one movie that I know of (Manhunt In the Jungle) and he was quite goof in it playing a normal person for a change.

As to The Thing That Couldn't Die, it moved too slowly for me, spent too much time with scenes of people just moving from one place to another. Supreme irony: the best actor in the movie is seen mostly as a severed head, has little to actually do but look evil and put people in trances.

reply

Uh huh. I liked the movie -- it was a bit silly but prime 1950s B-horror. And, the fact the ranch hand killed was from "To Kill A Mockingbird" was a kewl "hey, I know him!" moment.
