I've seen the release date given as May 13, 2008 -- which is a Tuesday, the usual day for new DVD releases (the 25th is a Sunday, which seems unlikely). But either way, about time.
The set will also include "None But the Brave", "The Tender Trap", "Marriage on the Rocks" and the previously released public domain title, "The Man with the Golden Arm".
This is one of four sets of Sinatra films being released at the same time by Warner Home Video. Of the three others, one has his three, already-released MGM musicals with Gene Kelly ("Anchors Aweigh", "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "On the Town"). A second contains five of his so-called "early" films, though some of them are later than these other titles; but they do include his feature debut, "Step Lively", plus two other RKO titles, "Higher and Higher" and "Double Dynamite" as well as the MGM films "The Kissing Bandit" and "It Happened in Brooklyn". Finally, the Rat Pack films are being put out in their own package, including the as-yet-unreleased "Sergeants 3" along with "Ocean's 11", "4 for Texas" and "Robin and the 7 Hoods", each currently available on DVD.
Plus, the Frank-approved telefilm "Sinatra" is also being released May 13. But "Some Came Running" is, in my opinion, the best of the bunch.
I assume the occasion for this inundation of Sinatra titles is the upcoming tenth anniversary of his death on May 14, 1998.
