Fantastic
What a great movie. I'm not too well-versed in the 50s melodrama genre (I haven't seen any Sirk yet) but this movie has blown me away. The emotional intensity is incredible. I read someone I believe on this site accusing Shirley MacLaine of overacting. No! She is wonderfully and endearingly pathetic - her scene at the school and then with Sinatra reading his story to her are the best in the movie. Everybody else in the cast is great too. I can't wait to watch it again.
