Gomer Pyle was a character on the Andy Griffith Show and spun off to his own show which is glaringly similar to NTFS. Add to it that Andy Griffith was in NTFS and was involved in the creation of GP-USMC...Just Sayin
It really wasn't a total ripoff, but the military commedies of the 60's (Gomer Pyle, USMC, McHales Navy and Hogans Heroes) were made when the Vietnam War was raging and they were made trying to make light of the military in general (no pun intended). It's amazing it really is.
I was just watching the pilot episode of Gomer Pyle USMC and was struck by how similar this show was to the plot of NTFS...country bumpkin gets drafted and drives his CO crazy...very interesting!...NTFS has always been one of my favorite comedy films
"Forrest Gump" was based on a book written by Winston Groom in the mid-1980's. The book was a satire on American society, especially the cynicism of major institutions and the gullibility of the general public. The story was softened enormously for the movie version.
The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.
Yeah, the premise was the same. Bumpkin goes to military service. Well, it worked in the movie AND it worked in the Gomer Pyle USMC show. I thought Gomer Pyle had VERY good writing for TV and sometimes made me bust my sides laughing. What could be wrong with that?
